In the wake of vanquishing the Kalakeyas, Amarendra Baahubali is announced as the future lord of Mahishmati and Bhallaladeva its president. The Rajmata Sivagami orders Amarendra to visit the realm and its neighborhood, alongside Kattappa. During the visit, Amarendra witnesses an assault by Devasena/Thevasenai, the princess of Kuntala, a realm neighboring Mahishmati. Going gaga for her, he moves toward her after the battle, acting like a bonehead and a vagrant and Kattappa assumes a job as his uncle, and is acknowledged into the imperial castle for a vocation.

Bhallaladeva gets a message of Amarendra’s demonstration and after review Devasena’s picture, desires for her. He approaches Sivagami for Devasena’s turn in marriage. The Rajmata, who was uninformed of Amarendra’s affections for Devasena, guarantees Bhallaladeva and sends an emissary to Kuntala, who conveys the proposition to be engaged in a disparaging manner. An offended Devasena rejects the proposition with a searing answer. Infuriated hearing her reaction, Sivagami sends a request to Amarendra that Devasena be brought to Mahishmati as a hostage.

In the interim, Kuntala is assaulted by Pindaris, a dacoit-like armed force. Amarendra, with the assistance of Kattappa, Devasena’s maternal cousin, Kumara Varma, can invalidate the assault and spare Kuntala. After being addressed, Amarendra uncovers his actual personality. He gets a winged animal post from Mahishmati, requesting him to take Devasena as hostage. He guarantees Devasena that he will ensure her respect and persuades her to accompany him to Mahishmati as his future lady of the hour.

After coming to Mahishmati, the misconception is exposed and when a final offer is conveyed to Amarendra that he should either pick the seat or Devasena, he picks the last mentioned. Bhallaladeva is delegated lord and Amarendra is made the new president. This, in any case, doesn’t affect Amarendra’s prevalence among the individuals.
